Positively Awesome Giveaway!

By IBEX Staff

By now you know that IBEX culture is a little bit, hmm, how shall we say – different! We have weird titles (i.e. Alpine Crew, Grumpy Goats, Feedcounters etc.), we have daily Herddles and we go out of our way to make our customers and our fellow Herd members smile. Strategies we like to do because we want to work in a positive, happy environment that’s productive and attracts good people – customers and staff alike.

Of course, being positive is not always easy. The stress and challenges of everyday life can take their toll on even the most positive people. That’s why it’s good to get a little reminder, some inspiration and some new ideas once in a while. On that note, IBEX is pleased to offer a chance to win a ticket to The Power of Positive – an event that promises women an opportunity to recharge, reconnect and relax.

(For the gentlemen out there, think how great of a surprise this would be for your wife, partner, mother, daughter or other significant woman in your life.)

The Power of Positive

To win, simply comment on this post with one idea of how you stay positive and your name will be entered to win a complimentary ticket to this one day event held on Saturday, April 28 from 9:00am – 4:30pm at the Prairie Theatre Exchange. The draw will be made from all entries received by Thursday, April 26.

The Power of Positive will allow you to:

  • Enjoy 5 powerful, positive speakers
  • Be a part of a flash mob dance (exciting!)
  • Network and luncheon with over 200 amazing women
  • Leave feeling energized and ready to take on the world

If you want to bring a friend along, tickets are regularly $99. More information can be found on their website.

We can’t wait to hear all your positive ideas and give one lucky lady The Power of Positive.

Low cost holiday party not low on fun

Looking for a fun idea for your company holiday party that does not cost a bundle but is super fun?  Why not take a page from the IBEX Payroll Herd.

This year IBEX rented our local community centre, had a potluck dinner, and for fun we had a gift exchange and played spongee hockey outdoors on the rink ice.

We had an open bar, but it turned out we were so busy having fun we barely drank anything!  A safe and affordable evening.  We all agreed it was a really, really good time and something we would definitely consider doing again.  We made a video to show the world just how much fun we had – all on a budget.

Video – The IBEX Herd Holiday Party 2011 – Fun on a budget!

The Dirty Jobs Philosophy

Mike Rowe, host of “Dirty Jobs” on the Discovery Channel, gave a TED talk in 2008.

He talks about what is wrong with the common adage  ”if you want to succeed, follow your passion.”  He reflects on a pig farmer in Las Vegas who uses casino food scraps to feed his pigs and how  this smelly man has become a multi-millionaire.

“He stepped back, watched where everyone else was going, and he went the other way,” says Rowe.  He goes on to say how well adjusted and happy many of his dirty jobs subjects are and how not many of them “followed their passions.”

This is the story of many of us at IBEX (including me).  A biologist, a race car fanatic and former entrepreneur, a social worker and a would be football coach, all led by an engineer and geek.  Not the group you would expect to find happily working at a payroll outsourcing company.  None of us followed our passion to success.  We found success in our passion for helping others.

Hugs in a Box

Yesterday one of our most effervescent, amazing, energetic and entertaining customers was not her usual self, not at all.  She was down, way down.

Susan Turner, Culture Queen and Payroll Specialist, noticed our customer was in need of hugs and alerted the whole Alpine Crew.  It was time for an ibexseed!

The Alpine Crew met and with leadership from Raissa and help from Jill,  we put together  ”Hugs in a Box”.

Recipe for Hugs in a Box

  • a poem (see below).
  • a personal note from Alpine Crew.
  • a teddy bear.
  • a bunch of Hershey’s hugs in an IBEX mug.

We sent it all out by courier and we hope that in some small way we brightened her day.

The Power of a (((Hug)))

There’s something in a simple hug

That always warms the heart;

It welcomes us back home

And makes it easier to part.

A hug’s the way to share the joy

And sad times we go through,

Or just a way for friends to say

They like you ‘cuz you’re you.

Hugs are meant for anyone

For whom we really care-

From your grandma to your neighbor,

Or a cuddly teddy bear.

A hug is an amazing thing–

It’s just the perfect way

To show the love we’re feeling

But can’t find the words to say.

It’s funny how a little hug

Makes everyone feel good;

In every place and language,

It’s always understood.

And hugs don’t need equipment,

Special batteries, or parts–

Just open up your arms

And open up your hearts.
