The IBEX Herd Culture

The IBEX Herd Culture is integral to the software products
we design and the kind of customer service we provide.
Here are a few highlights.

Vision

Our vision is to be the best place to work in Canada.

Titles, Teams & Terminology

We use a lot of IBEX and mountain metaphors and analogies in our titles, team and program names including Herd Geeks, Head Feed Counter, Mountain Do, Pasture Manager, Alpine Crew, and Everest because we take our work seriously - but not ourselves.

Herd Mentality

We follow a herd mentality. This means doing things our way. Our way means doing things that are good for our customers and good for us. By following the herd mentality our systems and service have become better and we have become happier as a herd and as individuals.

Herddle

Because a great service culture requires open communication, each day at 10:12 am the entire company gathers for five minutes in the IBEX commons area to share good news, missing systems and  departmental priorities for the day.

HEPP

The “Herd People Program” is about taking care of ourselves. It gives herd members the emotional support they need to say “please HEPP me.” We HEPP herd members take their personal lives to new levels with professional help.

Climbing Higher

Trying to build a sustainable employee-owned company requires that we all understand the finances. So  each month the whole herd receives a climbing higher letter that highlights our financial picture.

Alpine Support

We assign each customer to a support crew of 3 to 5 Herd members. Each support crew works together to serve an assigned group of customers so you know your crew and your crew knows you.

Herdquarters

Having a stable home is important. In 2010, we purchased the 60,000 square foot building that has been our home for past 10 years.

1-on-1 Coaching

Every herd member sits with their coach, usually their supervisor, every six weeks. The coach is there to listen and help the herd member set goals.

IBEXseeds

Every day we try to exceed our customers' expectations, but sometimes we like to go even further. In these random acts, the extra thought we show – the extra effort we give – plants SEEDS of love, concern and value in the minds and hearts of our customers and community. If we see a need, we try & plant a seed.

Clean Your Green

Clean Your Green is a public declaration of our love for our community and our commitment to making it an even better place to live. We improve green spaces in Winnipeg while raising thousands of dollars for hard-working, deserving families through Habitat for Humanity.

Sean Bueckert
Sean is the Technical Architect behind the Everest payroll platform. He works with Hanna (who manages the customer interface) and Frank (our platform construction manager). Sean’s design ensures that the Everest platform is flexible enough to address all of our client’s present requirements, and that the platform is robust enough to meet a host of theoretical “what ifs”, “just in case” and “maybes”.
Hanaa Louka
Hanna is the Designer of the Everest payroll platform’s user interface. Hanna has a gift for translating our customers’ needs into simple, intuitive interface designs. Hanna begins the process with a smile and a simple question. That question leads to another and another. In the end she makes things far less complicated than they were when she started by focusing on just one thing: your need.
Darryl Stewart
Darryl is the Founder of IBEX Payroll, a friend of change and an active advocate for holistic business practices. The IBEX Herd culture invites and promotes teamwork while also encouraging each person to reach their full potential.  The IBEX payroll system is the direct result of Darryl’s belief that we should strive to help ourselves grow stronger and better by making our clients stronger and better.

Frank Conway
Frank is Head of Mountain Do, the team that built and continues to evolve the Everest payroll platform. Frank is a veteran project manager, an experienced technical architect and part time visionary. A key part of Frank’s role is to use customer feedback to define the future boundaries of the Everest platform’s performance envelop – and ensure we exceed them before our customers need them.
Kevin Zimmer
Kevin is Head of Alpine Crew, the IBEX customer service team. Kevin is passionate about what he does and he has been doing it at IBEX for 15 years. 15 years, three different payroll platforms and just one Kevin. Kevin is the calm voice that leads by example and still loves to serve payroll customers every day.
Susan Turner
Susan is the IBEX Culture Queen. She makes sure IBEX gets it right by coaching herd members on payroll issues and making sure we are true to our herd culture in all that we say and do. Susan ran her own payroll outsourcing company for over 10 years and has contributed invaluable insights to the IBEX Payroll system and our culture. Thanks to Susan our team really is a team.
terry-harrison wadood-ibrahim peregrin-m
Terry Harrison
Terry is Head of Pasture Development. Most of our clients meet Terry, or one of his team, on the way to becoming an IBEX Payroll customer.  Terry ensures that the transfer from your current payroll supplier to IBEX is a worry free and positive evolution.  Terry does not stop until you and your team are completely satisfied with the IBEX Payroll service and customer support experience.
Wadood Ibrahim
Wadood is a Co-founder of Protegra and a long-time advisor to IBEX payroll. Wadood was the architect of Blue Canvas Inc., the win-win arrangement that allowed the creation of our third generation payroll system called Everest.  Thanks to Wadood’s insightful leadership, the Protegra team has won the Best Small and Medium Employer in Canada award twice!
Peregrin Maksimovich
Peregrin is Head of Herd Geeks. Peregrin and his team test and document all the enhancements to the Everest payroll platform.  Peregrin also oversees the physical environment at IBEX Herdquarters.  Like any good zoo keeper, Peregrin works hard to create a physical environment in which the IBEX Herd thrives.
