'Tis the Season for Effective Planning
Organizational & HR

Staff, production schedules need to be communicated.

Believe it or not, the holiday season is fast approaching and it's time to start organizing our schedules in an effort to stay ahead of the chaos.

This year, Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and Boxing Day (Dec. 26) are on a Thursday and Friday. New Year's Day is the following week on Thursday (Jan. 1, 2009).

In Manitoba, general holiday labour and employee guidelines for the holiday season are:
  • Christmas Day and New Year's Day are considered general holidays;
  • Most employees are paid general holiday pay for these days whether they work or not;
  • Boxing Day, Dec. 26, is NOT considered a general holiday;
  • Most retail businesses cannot be open on New Year’s Day or Christmas Day.
For more information about general holidays in Manitoba, visit the Government of Manitoba website's General Holidays Fact Sheet.

With dates and guidelines clearly in place, it's important to remember that planning and communication are the keys to happiness for your customers, suppliers and employees during this most wonderful time of year. Planning ahead, and then communicating those plans, are effective tools for managing the chaos.
