The IBEX Herd Culture

We have a vision to be the best place in Canada to work.
Here are some key components:

Herddle

A great culture demands timely, open
communication. Each day at 10:12 am the
whole company gathers for five minutes in
the IBEX commons and we share good news,
missing systems and each department
summarizes key priorities for the day.

Climbing Higher

Trying to build a sustainable employee-
owned company requires that everyone
understands the finances. Each month a
climbing higher letter to the whole herd
highlights the company's whole financial
picture.

Clean Your Green

Clean Your Green makes public our love for
our community and our commitment to
making it a great place to live. We show it by
improving green spaces while raising tons
of dough for hard-working deserving families
through Habitat for Humanity.

HEPP

“Herd People Program” is about taking care
of ourselves. It is okay for herd members to
say “please hepp me.” This program
provides paid time off for herd members to
take things in their personal life to new levels
with professional help.

Herd Mentality

We follow a herd mentality. This means
doing things our way. Our way means doing
things that are good for our customers and
good for us. The more we follow the herd
mentality the better our systems and service
have become and the happier we have
become as people.

Alpine Support

We assign each customer to a support crew of 3 to 5 Herd members. Each crew works together to serve their assigned customers. You know your crew and your crew knows you. Each crew has a single phone number and email address. Our support philosophy is named after Alpine Crew, our first crew and the pioneers of this system.

Herdquarters

Having a stable home is important. In 2010,
we purchased the 60,000 square foot
building that has been our home for past 10
years. We can now go forward with the
confidence that we have room to grow, plus
we can play floor hockey in our office
without getting grief from the landlord!

Titles and Team Names

Herd Geeks, Head Feed Counter, Mountain
Do, Pasture Manager, Culture Queen, Alpine
Crew..., you get the picture. We take our work
seriously, but not ourselves. People
concerned with the size of their office
or their title don’t work at IBEX — they
can’t stand it.

1-on-1 Coaching

Every herd member sits with their coach,
usually their supervisor, every six weeks.
This is not a review, but a meeting where
the coach mostly listens and helps the
herd member set goals and be
accountable for them.

IBEXseeds

Every day we try to exceed our customers'
expectations, but sometimes we like to go
even further. In these random acts, the
extra thought we show – the extra effort we
give – plants SEEDS of love, concern and
value in the minds and hearts of our
customers and our community. If we see a
need, we try and plant a seed.

kevin-zimmer sean-b darryl-stewart
Kevin Zimmer
Kevin is Head of Alpine Crew, the IBEX customer service team. Kevin is passionate about what he does and he has been doing it at IBEX for 15 years. 15 years, three different payroll platforms and just one Kevin. Kevin is the calm voice that leads by example and still serves customers every day.
Sean Bueckert
Sean is the Technical Architect behind the Everest payroll platform. Sean has so many technical certifications that his card could use a fold out. Sean looks harmless enough, but engage him in a game of strategy and the other side of Sean emerges, the same side that has masterminded the architecture that has taken IBEX and the Everest payroll platform to a very cool place.
Darryl Stewart
Darryl is the Founder of IBEX. Darryl believes that engaging people is the key to building a great product and a great place to work. Darryl is passionate about IBEX’s vision to be the best place in Canada to work.
terry-harrison hanna-louka2 peregrin-m
Terry Harrison
Terry is Head of Pasture Development. Terry is the quiet one, the sleeper, the one with incredible words of wisdom that change the game and the one everyone goes to with their problems. Terry cares. Terry has been in management and sales since about the time JELL-O was invented.
Hanaa Louka
Hanaa is the Designer of many parts of the Everest payroll platform. Hanaa is a very cool and stylish person with an incredible head for design. Hanaa pulls the dirty details from the heads of team members and IBEX customers alike and then somehow makes things far less complex in the end than they were in the beginning.
Peregrin Maksimovich
Peregrin is Head of Herd Geeks.  Peregrin breathes systems and efficiency and has been known to shed tears when any kind of system failure or inaccuracy prevails, but he does it all with a passion for the people around him and he is a super stylish guy.
susan-turner wadood-ibrahim frank-conway
Susan Turner
Susan is Culture Queen. Susan makes sure IBEX gets it right; coaching herd members on payroll issues and more notably making sure we are true to our herd culture in all that we do. Susan ran her own payroll outsourcing company, almost single handedly, for over 10 years and loves working with IBEX, a team that really acts like a team.
Wadood Ibrahim
Wadood is a Co-Founder of Protegra and a long-time advisor to IBEX. Wadood was the architect of Blue Canvas Inc., the win-win arrangement that allowed the creation of IBEX's third generation payroll system — Everest. Everest is allowing IBEX, the company with heart, to also be IBEX, the company with the best payroll system in Canada. Wadood and the Protegra team have won the Best Small and Medium Employer in Canada award twice!
Frank Conway
Frank is Head of Mountain Do, the team that built and continues to evolve the Everest payroll platform. Frank has a binary clock on his wall and wears a cap with Dilbert’s boss on it when he is doing any sort of bureaucratic work. Frank is a veteran project manager and an experienced technical architect and the true gatekeeper protecting the IBEX system from all threats.
